HANSE Bereederung was established in 1976 and is a part of the Schoeller Holdings group, a major company with a number of interests in the shipping world, including COLUMBIA Shipmanagement Ltd., of Limassol, Cyprus, one of the largest shipmanagement companies worldwide.

For more than 30 years HANSE has been actively engaged both in exclusive and competitive container and dry-cargo chartering, in the sale and purchase of ships, as well as in agency.

Although specialising in ships of between about 200 teu and 4000 teu in size, the company covers the whole range of the container market from around 100 teu up to vessels of more than 5000 teu.

Resulting from the above, HANSE has direct access to and continuous dialogue with most of the container liner companies and ship-owners worldwide, resulting in more than 100 fixtures last year including trip and round voyage fixtures, and period charters, however, with a majority of long-term containership time-charters.

Due to an experienced and specialized staff HANSE is in a position to provide a full range of chartering and operational services, including detailed and updated market information and reports, especially about the container market.

Apart from competitive chartering, the following exclusive business is taken care of :

  • HANSE is responsible for the exclusive chartering for the groups' affiliated liner service, BENGAL TIGER LINE, operating container feeder services on several routes in the Bay of Bengal/Indian Ocean. BTL continuously has on long term charter about twelve modern container vessels.

  • HANSE also takes care of exclusive chartering for all Schoeller Holdings Ltd controlled containerships and mpp/dry-cargo vessels, as listed as part of the Fleet.


  • Furthermore HANSE takes care of the chartering-in of vessels for the group owned liner services operated by Austral Asia Lines and New Pacific Shipping, who run break-bulk and project liner services between Australia and Pacific/Far East/South East Asia (for more information please see our links site).


  • Additional to the above, HANSE is responsible for the chartering of some of the container ships controlled by Messrs. König & Cie, by Messrs. Lloyd Fonds AG, and by Messrs. MARTIME whom, for example, manage about 26 vessels consisting mainly of container vessels in the range of 1100 up to 3500 TEU.
